Dear Residents,
As we prepare for the winter weather forecasted for this weekend, I want to remind everyone that University Park is at its best when we look out for one another. Extreme cold and snow can pose significant risks, but a little preparation and neighborly care go a long way.
Winter Safety Essentials
To help keep our town safe and accessible, please keep the following tips in mind:
Check on Your Neighbors: Please take a moment to check in on seniors or those living alone. Ensure they have adequate heat and supplies.
Stay Off the Roads: Unless it is absolutely necessary, please stay home. Keeping the roads clear allows snowplows and emergency vehicles to do their jobs more effectively.
Pet Safety: If it’s too cold for you, it’s too cold for them. Please bring all pets indoors.
Heating Safety: Use extreme caution with space heaters (keep them at least three feet away from anything flammable) and never use generators indoors or in garage spaces due to carbon monoxide risks.
Clear Your Path: Keeping walkways and driveways clear of snow and ice helps prevent falls and ensures emergency responders can reach your home if needed.
Stay Informed: Keep a battery-powered radio handy to listen for weather updates and emergency broadcasts in the event of a power outage.
Who to Call
If you have a concern about a neighbor or encounter a problem:
Emergencies: Call 911 immediately.
Non-Emergencies: For police dispatch or non-emergency concerns, call 301-352-1200.
Stay warm, stay safe, and thank you for being a vigilant part of our community.
Sincerely,
Chief David Coleman
