Councilmember Martha McCart Wells has been a University Park resident since 2008. She retired in 2016 from her consulting firm, Spatial Focus, which specializes in street addressing and geographic information for local governments throughout the United States. Martha was born in Minnesota, grew up in the San Francisco area, and has lived in Atlanta, Birmingham, and a few other places on her way to Maryland. She has a master’s degree in Regional Planning from the University of Massachusetts, and worked as a planner, community development director, coastal zone manager, and GIS manager for local governments in California, Saipan and Georgia. She and her business partner started their own company in 1998.
Martha and her husband, Ed, have five grown children and five grandchildren. They live on 40th Avenue in Ward 6. Martha is active in St. Matthew’s / San Mateo Episcopal Church in Hyattsville, and is also an avid gardener, knitter, weaver, and cook.
As a member of the Town Council, her issues include stronger cooperation with our neighboring municipalities, especially with respect to development projects and stormwater management, effective and economical town services, and an emphasis on enhancing our community of amazing citizens.
