Councilmember Laurie Morrissey grew up in suburban Atlanta, Georgia, and moved to Maryland in 1991 after graduating from the University of Georgia College of Journalism and Mass Communication. Laurie has worked in the online and print publishing industries for more than 30 years. She has worked on web teams for three Federal government agencies, a non-profit charity, an internet start-up, and a for-profit publishing company. She also holds a Master of Arts degree in Non-Fiction Writing from Johns Hopkins University.
Laurie has been a UP resident since September 2007. Laurie is married to Jen Russell who has lived in UP since 1993. Their daughters, Emily and Abby, grew up in UP and attended UP Elementary School and graduated from Eleanor Roosevelt High School.
Laurie serves on the Public Facilities & Services Committee and is the chair of the Policy, Rules & Municipal Structure Committee. She is also the Council Liaison to the Committee on Trees, Parks and the Environment. She is often seen working in her garden.
