In University Park, mBike bike share system to be replaced this summer
The joint bike share system of the Town of University Park, City of College Park, and the University of Maryland — mBike — will end this summer, with its last day of operations on August 31, 2019. The mBike system was operated by Zagster via a three-year contract with the City of College Park and the University of Maryland, which ended in early May. The parties were unable to come to terms on a replacement system through Zagster, and have mutually agreed to part ways.
While three years remain on the 5-year contract between the Town of University Park and Zagster, the parties will mutually release each other allowing bike share in Town to continue to be part of a larger system shared with College Park and the University. The three entities intend to build on the success of mBike by introducing a new shared mobility system that provides pedal bikes, pedal-assist bikes and electric scooters. We hope to make details of this new system public very soon.
The mBike program grew steadily over the past three years, with more than 4,000 unique users and 130,000 trips.
We apologize for any inconvenience during this transition, and have made arrangements with Zagster for refunds to current members. Questions about mBike refunds and existing mBike memberships should be directed to Zagster at support@zagster.com or (202) 999-3924.
