In a continuing effort to support green initiatives, University Park is thrilled to announce 6 electric vehicle charging stations have been installed across the street from the elementary school on Queens Chapel Road. It was a collaborative town effort which began when former Councilmember Joe Schultz attended a Maryland Municipal League (MML) conference a few years ago and met with the president of the Electric Vehicle Institute (EVI) where he learned about their grant program for municipalities. The Sustainability and Police, Traffic and Public Safety Committees; Public Works Director Mickey Beall and Town Administrator David Deutsch all had an integral role bringing the charging stations to town. The Council also had a role as they approved the EVI grant agreement at the May 3, 2021 Council meeting.

What to know:
- All 6 of the stations are operational.
- The parking spaces are not restricted to electric vehicles – anyone can park in those spaces.
- Currently, there is no cost to charge a vehicle.
Many thanks to all those who were involved. The Town is proud to pursue projects which improve our environmental sustainability and resiliency. If you have more questions, email Town Administrator David Deutsch at ddeutsch@upmd.org.
