Due to the pandemic, the Town of University Park, along with surrounding communities, is not recommending the traditional door-to-door trick-or-treating this year. We encourage residents to turn off porch lights - the indicator that candy will be handed out - on the evening of Saturday, October 31 and find alternative ways to enjoy Halloween this year. Understanding we can't make everyone stay at home, the University Park Police and CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) volunteers will be out to ensure public safety.
Prince George's County has provided a list of alternatives to the yearly Halloween traditions - see the graphic below. Also, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has provided information on steps to take when trick-or-treating for those who plan to go out on Halloween night this year. We encourage you take a moment to read their recommendations and visit their websites - CDC and Prince George's County.
We understand that the pandemic has disrupted our loved yearly traditions and gatherings and we would all like to go back to normal, but unfortunately the virus continues to spread in our communities. We urge you to continue to wear your masks and keep proper social distances (6 feet). The best way to protect ourselves, our loved ones, and our community is by doing our part by following CDC and Prince George's County guidelines and best practices.
