The severe storm on Thursday, September 10, 2020 dropped well over 5 inches of rain on University Park in about 90 minutes. Many Town streets were flooded and we are hearing from several of you that you have had significant water intrusion on your property and are experiencing flooded basements (or worse) in your homes.
The Town is working with the Prince George’s County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and neighboring municipalities to determine if the impact of last week’s storm will meet the requirements for a FEMA disaster declaration. A FEMA declaration may make certain storm related costs eligible for reimbursement. While we are uncertain if the costs in the County will be above the threshold necessary for the disaster declaration, you should file a claim if you incurred any uninsured losses on your property.
The County’s Office of Emergency Management has developed an online damage assessment tool for residents to submit their information. The damage assessment tool can be found online at bit.ly/PGCFloodDamage. Please go online and submit your information directly to OEM.
