[ARCHIVED] Lieutenant Enig Receives Recognition for Traffic Stop

20.01.23 Enig Commendation Award Recognition with Chief Baker and US Attorney Robert K. Hur

On January 23, 2020, Lt. Daniel Enig received the U.S. Attorneys’ Project Safe Neighborhood Recognition for a traffic stop he made back in 2016. Lt. Enig stopped the vehicle for speeding on Baltimore Avenue and arrested the driver for possession of synthetic drugs and a stolen handgun. The stolen handgun had been used in a homicide and a shooting in Washington, D.C. Lt. Enig’s initial actions resulted in the identification and arrest of a group led by a husband and wife team responsible for distributing synthetic drugs in the area. The husband and wife team were convicted of multiple criminal law violations to include attempted murder and distribution of synthetic drugs. The couple received federal prison sentences of more than 35 years. In the words of U.S. Attorney Robert K. Hur, there is no such thing as a routine traffic stop.

Lt. Enig’s actions were noteworthy and commendable. Congratulations Lt. Enig and thank you for your continued commitment to keeping the community safe!
