Operation Grinch - Preventing Theft from Automobiles
Thefts from autos are a widespread problem in the Washington Metropolitan region – especially, during the holiday season. Very recently several thefts from autos occurred throughout Prince George’s County. As such, the University Park Police have initiated an “Operation Grinch” initiative to proactively prevent theft from autos in University Park. During the holiday season, you may notice a University Park Police Officer walking throughout the neighborhood checking for unlocked vehicles. Once an unlocked vehicle is found, the officer will then place a courtesy card inside of the vehicle and lock the door. To date, unfortunately, we have located 55 vehicles left unlocked. Each unlocked vehicle is an opportunity for a would-be thief/Grinch to spoil your holiday cheer. Residents are encouraged to remove all valuables from their vehicles and lock the doors. Remember to Keep it Safe, Keep it with you!
