Single Stream Recycling (Thursdays)

NO PLASTIC BAGS IN THE RECYCLING--PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY ENACTED A BAN ON JULY 1, 2015.

FAQ Plastic Bag Ban

All acceptable recycling materials should be placed in Town-provided carts. Please secure with lids to prevent littering and attracting wild animals and birds.

Oversized or overflow cardboard may be placed alongside the blue recycling cart at the curb.

Residents must bring carts to the curb for pick up before 7:00am unless they have already arranged for side-door or back-door service.

Acceptable Items

Glass:
  • Food and beverage containers

    Metals:
  • Empty aerosol cans
  • Aluminum, bimetal, ferrous, and steel food and beverage containers
  • Aluminum foil
  • Coat hangers

    Mixed Paper/Corrugated Cardboard:
  • All paper
  • Aseptic/gable-top milk and juice cartons
  • Catalogs
  • Flattened corrugated cardboard (boxes)
  • Frozen food packaging
  • Hard- and soft- covered books
  • Craft paper bags and wrapping paper
  • Magazines
  • Newspapers with inserts
  • Paper board (cereal and cracker boxes)
  • Telephone books

    Plastics:
  • Drinking cups/glasses
  • Flower pots
  • Narrow-neck containers with code identification numbers 1 through 7
  • Wide-mouth containers such as peanut butter, yogurt, cottage cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise and whipped topping; margarine/butter tubs; and
  • Prescription bottles
  • Coat hangers

    Remember to rinse all food and beverage containers and to recap or place the lids in the recycling cart/bin.

    Unacceptable Items:

  • Broken glass
  • Dishes
  • Electronics
  • Hazardous materials
  • Light bulbs
  • Medical waste
  • Mirrors
  • Motor oil containers
  • Packing foam and peanuts
  • Plastic utensils
  • Windowpanes

    Bulk Metal Recycling (Tuesdays and Fridays)

    All bulk metal is collected on Tuesdays and Fridays. Items must be brought to the curb. This includes appliances.

    A/C's, DEHUMIDIFIERS, FREEZERS, and REFRIGERATORS REQUIRE A $20 PAYMENT submitted to the Town Clerk prior to scheduling the pick up. Checks should be made payable to the Town of University Park.

    Unacceptable items include:
    Compressed cylinders of any size, shape or condition. Drums, tanks, kegs and barrels (plastic and metal) greater than 55 gallons in size, unless the sides are removed and the vessel flattened prior to collection.


    Electronics Recycling Drop Off and Paper Shredding--TBD Spring 2018


    Location: University Park Elementary School Bus Turnaround
    Time: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

    Acceptable/Unacceptable Electronic Recycling List

    University Park Residents (PROOF OF RESIDENCY REQUIRED) must arrange to bring items to the scheduled semi-annual recycling events.

    Residents who miss the semi-annual collection events may also take electronics to the county facility.

    TVs and electronics are NOT collected with regular weekly collections.
