The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will soon begin work on a $1 million capacity improvement project on MD 410 (East West Highway) at MD 500 (Queen’s Chapel Road)/Adelphi Road in Hyattsville, Prince George’s County. Weather permitting, construction will be complete fall 2010.

Project work includes:

Modifying the existing lanes and concrete islands to accommodate the new lane configuration;
Installing 300 feet of new ADA compliant sidewalks along westbound MD 410 at Adelphi Road and installing new ADA sidewalk ramps along MD 410 within the project limits; and,
Resurfacing a half-mile section of MD 410, and less than a quarter-mile segments along MD 500 and Adelphi Road.

One lane will be closed on westbound MD 410 Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., on eastbound MD 410 Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m., and on MD 500/Adelphi Road Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Additional lane closures can also be expected during water main relocation and resurfacing:

• Both directions MD 410, MD 500, and Adelphi Road - single lane closures overnight Monday through Friday between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m., double lane closures overnight Monday through Friday between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.

PROJECT UPDATE: Before roadwork can begin, utility crews need to relocate an 8-inch gas main. Crews will work overnight Sunday through Thursday, between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. from March 1 through March 14, weather permitting. During this work, there will be no parking allowed along the sidewalks on MD 410 and MD 500.
